A new file format called ".red", integrated to Redsdk and the CG workflow

The .red file format supports all the engine features that can now be saved to disk or loaded from it. The .red file format has been optimized to deliver high streaming performances and to be small on disk. It’s a container based model that can be extended to support user data. All kind of animations are supported by the .red file and stored in an optimized, compressed manner.
Using Redviewer for Autodesk® 3dsMax® / VIZ, all kind of files viewable can be turned into .red files for any applicative purpose. The .red files contain geometries, materials, textures, animation tracks, cameras and all scene layer informations.

3D textures support

Redsdk now fully supports 3D textures inside its shading API. You can integrate 3D textures to set 3D procedural effects like noise for example or any other effect which can still be combined with the other Redsdk built-in or custom shaders.
3D textures enable the design of volume rendering features, as required in most of software for the oil & gas or medical markets.

Reflection background shader

The Reflection background shader is a post-lighting shader used to simulate the effect of a background environment visible behind the scene. Using this shader, there’s no longer the need for the modeling of a hemispheric sky environment over a scene.
This new shader remains of course compatible with the shading graph architecture of Redsdk, i.e. it can be combined with any other built-in or custom shader.

Integration of the NVIDIA® G80 chipset

In order to continuously improve and extend the range of the Redsdk supported hardware, the NVIDIA® G80 chipset is now fully compatible with Redsdk.
Redsdk currently runs on all AMD-ATI Radeon cards 9600 and up, AMD-ATI FireGL boards T2-128 and up, NVIDIA® GeForce Fx cards and up, NVIDIA® Quadro Fx boards and up.
