What is redviewer?
Redviewer is a Redsdk based plugin for Autodesk® 3dsMax® / VIZ. It serves two main purposes:
Redviewer offers a WYSIWIG (What You See Is What You Get) visualization mode, directly in the Autodesk® 3dsMax® / VIZ viewport. Doing so, CG designers can preview their environment (modeling, texturing, lighting, animations, etc.) without having to run time-consuming intermediate renderings. Indeed, thanks to the Redsdk technology, Redviewer can preview real-time and ray traced effects interactively.
Redviewer exports to the .red file format, which can then be used in Redsdk based applications, for simulation, design, architecture, advertising or other markets purposes.
Please note that Redway3d no longer offers Redviewer as a standalone package. Redviewer is now reserved to Redsdk customers.

Set the lighting
Redviewer can display the effect of any standard Autodesk®
3ds Max® / VIZ light (omni, directional, spot, photometric or not,
mental ray®). Set any number of lights you need,
redviewer can display them! Check your shadowing by activating
real-time redviewer shadows. Shadow maps (blurry on NVIDIA® cards
or not) and ray traced shadows (sharp and soft) are all supported. |

Tune the materials
Redviewer supports most of the standard Autodesk ®
3ds Max® / VIZ materials and maps. See interactively how your material
will be rendered, place your textures and tune the specular highlights
(Phong, Blinn or anisotropic shaders are handled)… Complex maps
are displayed in real-time including mix, mask and falloff! |

Communicate and share
Simply choose to export a movie (using the ‘make preview’
command from Autodesk® 3ds Max® / VIZ ) to quickly produce a high quality
animation with redviewer. Show it to your customers or share it with
your teams to better fit their requirements.
This functionnality enables you to share the graphics assets of your model with people who do not have your Redsdk based application (yet). |

Integrate to your application
By exporting to the .red file format, you can retrieve all your modifications, updates, animations ... directly inside your Redsdk based application.
